The Irondequoit Senior Ministries (ISM) is a regional ministry sponsored by the Catholic Faith Communities - Christ the King, St. Ann's Community, St. Cecilia, St. Margaret Mary, St. Salome, St. Thomas the Apostle - in Irondequoit, New York with additional support from the Diocese of Rochester.

Guiding Principles

We believe every person:

·       Has dignity, worth and value.
·       Exists within a family, social and faith community.
·       Has a need to feel connected to the larger community
·       Has the right to make individual choices, while recognizing those choices impact the community.

Therefore, we as the Irondequoit Senior Ministries will work to:

·       Ensure that seniors maintain a connection to the larger community.
·       Make it possible for people to make informed choices.
·       Work with seniors and their families to meet the needs of aging.

Mission Statement

Responding to Christ's call to love God and one another, the Irondequoit Catholic Faith Communities - Christ the King, St. Ann's Community, St. Cecilia, St. Margaret Mary, St. Salome, St. Thomas the Apostle - have joined together to serve the needs of the senior population in Irondequoit. Our collaborative mission is to provide comprehensive regional senior ministries by, with and for seniors, so that our churches may bring the presence of the Lord to the people of our time and place. We will join with other faith communities and organizations to serve and advocate for seniors and their issues.

Program Development Areas

1.     Spiritual development activities designed to enrich the connection of the Senior Adult with God.
2.     Community programming to bring people together.
3.     Advance the Spirit of Stewardship through volunteer programming such as the Volunteer Transportation Program.
4.     Ministry to the homebound and development of a home and health care information sharing network.

Overview of Christian Caregiving at
The Lutheran Church of the Incarnate Word

Spirit led and pastor supported members of Incarnate Word love their neighbors as themselves as they purposefully engage in Christian caregiving.

Currently 20 “caregiver” members pay monthly visits to 26 homebound members.  These visits occur in private homes, long-term care facilities and even hospital/hospice rooms as necessary.  Our pastors visit these same homebound members, support the caregivers, and meet monthly with the lay leadership of this ministry to review the status of our homebound members as well as active members in need of temporary support due to illness or crisis.  Together pastoral visits supplemented by lay visitation translate to approximately 40 personal contacts with members in need per month.
