The Northeast Forum on Spirituality and Aging (http://nefosa.org).

Nurturing Spiritual Growth for the Second Half of Life.

Why Spirituality and Aging?

Thirty years have been added to our life expectancy in the last century and how we live those added years is each person’s new frontier.

The negative images of aging confront us daily. As we grow older, there is an ongoing need for adjustment to the physical, social, economic, emotional and spiritual changes we are going through.

The big questions of God, meaning, identity, purpose, dependence, suffering, faith, hope, love and death are revisited.

How we tell our story both reveals and shapes our sense of life fulfillment.

Personal growth requires change. Spiritual growth requires a change in perspective.

The mission of NEFOSA is to assist our churches, communities and elders in addressing the questions, concerns and needs encountered in the aging process.

Why the Northeast Forum on Spirituality & Aging?

All persons have the capacity for spirituality, finding meaning and connecting to our inner and outer being. The Northeast Forum on Spirituality & Aging (NEFOSA) serves as a catalyst, encouraging and supporting community connections involving church leaders, individuals and various services for the elderly through many means including:

  • training of local facilitators
  • sponsoring educational events
  • consulting with congregations
  • providing web resources
  • developing a state-wide network

NEFOSA is an outgrowth of a long partnership between LutheranCare of Clinton, New York and the Older Adult Ministry Team (Christians in Action for Seniors Team, C.A.S.T.) of the Upstate New York Synod of the ELCA.
